Tutus
Jo Dennin

Materials:
Tulle: 6” spools, no glitter if taking to the Childrens Hospital. Use all colors! Buy 1/2 price at Craft Stores
Elastic (3/4” or 1”)
12” square piece of sturdy cardboard
Scissors

Directions
  • Cut elastic anywhere from 16” to 24". If you like, measure waist and add 2".  Connect ends and sew together to form band. Reinforce your stitching.
  • Using your  12” board as a template, wrap the tulle around and around until you have it filled. Think of those yarn balls you used to make.
  • Cut your tulle on the bottom of the board, this will make your strips for the tutu.  Use multiple colors, create a pattern. School colors, holidays, etc.

  • Fold your netting strips in half. Place loop over elastic, then pull remainder of netting strip through. Pull tight but not overly so. I pull over my thumb on elastic.  Watch that you are always pulling in the same direction so the knots around band look the same.

Fill the band and you now have a beautiful princess tutu—or if yellow lion mane. You can also add ribbons.
