August/Fall 2019 Newsletter
August 11, 2019
How quickly a year goes by! I can’t believe my first year as President has passed, and my second year has begun.
I would like to thank the board members of the past year and the year ahead, for all of their work, dedication, and support. With their help, I know what is to come will be successful! I would also like to thank all of you for your continued support of the guild. It is a joy to work together with all of you!
We are coming into our busy season, and my favorite time of year. Are you ready? Children are back in school and summer will be over soon. Before we know it, it will be time for crisp fall mornings (I can’t wait), sweaters, pumpkins, Thanksgiving and Christmas! Gosh! Can you believe we are talking Christmas? And we have so many fun things coming up. Let’s take a look at what is ahead!
August 26 – Guild Birthday Party – Pot Luck – We are turning 13!
September 23 – Teddy Pruett – Sublime to Ridiculous
October 28 – Murder Mystery Dinner
November 11 – Chinese Auction
December 7 – Christmas Luncheon
Thursday Sewcials – We meet every Thursday, from 10 – 2, at Mills Chapel Baptist Church in Newnan. Bring a lunch and come join us. You can work on whatever you like – sewing, hand stitching, cross stitching, crocheting, etc., or try your hand at something new! Fun and laughs are had by all.
On the second Thursday of every month we work on Compassion for our homeless veterans or for the Newnan Pregnancy Center. Sometimes we have a special request to work on. Occasionally, we do have to change the date, so stay posted. Our upcoming Compassion sewing days are September 12th, October date will be announced, November 8th.
Our Saturday Sewcial for September 14th is Compassion sewing. Dates for the remainder of the year are October 12th, and November 9th.
Kiwanis Coweta County Fair
The fair this year will be held on September 19 – 29, 2019. The fair book will be out soon. I hope you all are considering entering a quilt. Once the book comes out you will be able to print off an entry form. Quilts are handled with care. You all do such beautiful work and are so very talented. Let’s participate and let people know we are here.
Christmas Fair Market
The Christmas Fair is almost here. This is our fundraiser for the year. Many items have been turned in however, we are still in need of items to sell. Please bring your items for the Christmas Market to the guild meetings to be collected. Items for the Christmas Market this year will be collected until our October 28th guild meeting. Linda Burns and Hetty Mapp are our Chairs for the Christmas Market.
Finally, we love to hear from you. If there is a speaker or teacher you would like to see, or an idea you would like for us to look into, please let us know.

Sewing for Compassion Quilts
Come join us as we sew our compassion quilts
Our guild continues to reach out to our community with compassion sewing and quilts. We are working on quilts for the Vets at Fort MacPherson and the Pregnancy Center as well as burp cloths. We are also in the process of making weighted quilts for children and youth. Compassion Sewing happens every 2nd Thursday of the month and twice a year at our Saturday Sewcials. It is our hope that we see each member on one of these special days. You can bring your sewing machine if you would like but we always need people to iron and cut. We also welcome guests. Hope to see you on one of these days!
