April 2025 Guild Meeting Ice Dyeing Workshop

UPDATE AFTER WORKSHOP - What a great time we had learning to dye our own fabric.  Thank you to Teresa and Jody for such a tremendous workshop.  The weather was beautiful, and we enjoyed lunch and fellowship while we waited for the ice to melt and the magic to happen.

Check out our Facebook page for more ice dyeing pictures from others.

Ice Dyeing Information & Registration
In April, Teresa S and Jody W will be leading us through an Ice Dyeing Workshop.  They have put a lot of thought, time and effort into bringing us this fantastic workshop.  This will be an extended guild meeting due to the dyeing process.  Plan to bring your lunch and stay for fun and fellowship as well as learning this new technique.
This should be a lot of fun.  Please sign up at the March meeting so that Jody and Teresa can finish cutting out the kits necessary. See Details below and link for the information and form.

UPDATED:
ICE DYEING WORKSHOP
Thursday, April 17, 2025
Limited to Guild Members. Advanced registration is required to ensure kits for everyone.
Since many of our guild members have expressed an interest in learning to do Ice Dyeing, we are excited to be able to do Ice Dyeing together in April!  We will start the workshop during our normal monthly meeting program and continue into the afternoon.  It takes approximately 4 hours for the dye to process and creates 3 yards of beautiful fabric!
A $40 kit is required for this workshop and is to cover the cost of the supplies.
Kit includes:
  • 12 Fat Quarters to Dye
  • Suspension Screen for your drip bin
  • 3 colors of dye (select either brights or darker colors including a red, blue, and yellow).  Jody will have samples at the March meeting for you to select your kit.
  • 3 Containers to mix your dye
  • 3 squeeze bottles to apply dye
  • 1 small funnel to fill bottles
  • Gloves

Supplies you need to bring for class:
  • 8-10 pounds of ice (in a cooler)
  • Drip Bin – 18” X 26” (approximately 6 inches deep) plastic bin
  • 8-10 large Binder Clips (will be used to fasten the drip screen to the plastic bin.)
  • A roll of paper towels
  • Mask – The dye is not toxic, but you don’t want to breath in the small particles when we mix the dye.
  • A garbage bag to put your supplies in after the class to transport them home.

Note: You will also need Synthrapol for use at home a few days after the class.  You might want to partner with another class member to purchase a small bottle together since you will only need a small amount of Synthrapol.
