Update: April_We have had 30 quilts turned in with a few more still to come.
_______________________________________________________
Our focus will be on baby quilts for the Pregnancy Center. We are aiming for quilts that finish approximately 36" x 36" up to 42" x 48-50". Nancy has made up several kits from the guild's fabric supply, and she will also have backing and batting available.

Nancy and I showed some examples of simple Quilt-as-you-go type baby quilts at the meeting on Thursday. If you want to use fabrics from your own stash, here is more information on those quilts. Nancy's sample quilt was made with jelly roll (2.5") strips, and you would need 18 - 20 strips for a quilt.

I've attached photos of the two baby quilts I shared at the meeting. Here are links to the patterns I used, although I changed some of the cutting measurements for my quilts:

For the Quick Strippy (the blue and orange quilt) I cut my focus fabric strips at 5.5" instead of 6.5". The other fabrics were cut as listed in the pattern. The finished size of my quilt is 40"W x 50"L.

For the Quicker Strippy (pastel quilt) I cut the focus fabric into 3 strips @ 9.5".
The other fabrics were cut as listed in the pattern. The finished size of that quilt is 40"W x 44"L.

I hope that many of you will be able to join us on the 30th to work together on baby quilts. We will have jobs available for people who don't want to bring their sewing machine (pressing, cutting, pinning.) The guild will provide two irons and ironing boards, plus rotary cutting mats. Please bring your own rotary cutters and rulers, plus basic sewing supplies. Feel free to bring along snacks or your lunch too.

See you on the 30th!

Thursday, May 22 -      Lap Quilts or Placemats

(Meals on Wheels)
The next Community Service Sewing Day will be May 22, and we will be working on lap/throw quilts for Meals on Wheels. Our target size for the quilts is around 48-50” wide by 60-64” long. There are free patterns that can be made with three 1-yard pieces of fabric available at the following website: sewcanshe.com/tag/3-yard-quilts/
Nancy will be bringing in kits for us to choose from and can prepare early for our sew day.  More information to follow at the next guild meeting. Pic of some of the kits below.
After our sew day, if you are able to quilt the quilts before bringing them back, the help will be greatly appreciated.
